Thassos Island - Villages/Kallirachi-01.jpg Kallirachi is a mountain village. It got built directly at a slope. Kallirachi is only 2,5 km from the coast and also one of the biggest villages in the mountains of the isle Thassos. Here you will find the local authority. The 1.300 inhabitants works with agriculture and tourism.
Beliving a legende about the time 1745 a.Chr. the village was at an other place. But the village got destroyed by pirates. Prince Savel escaped and rebuilt the village there where you can find it today. The village was called Kaki which means bad. After pirates distructed the village the inhabitants changed the name in Rachi. So arised the name Kallirachi for the village today out of the two names before. Thassos Island - Villages/Kallirachi-03.jpg In Kallirachi you will find the remaind manor houses. The streets are very small, twisty and windy. The best way to dicover Kallirachi is by feet. Only in this way it is possible to feel the flair of the old houses. It is not possible to get lost in Kallirachi, but because of the twisty style it is very easy to loose the synopsis.
